Meet the Team

Top courses need top trainers – & you don’t get much better than these guys

To be a snowsports instructor, you’ve got to know what you’re talking about. But to be an instructor instructor… Well, you have to be next level – quite literally. All the instructors we have teach on our courses are Level 3 or 4 certified, making sure you’re always getting top-class tuition. Here’s a short introduction from some of them:

Ian Logan – CASI President, Sun Peaks Sports School Assistant Director & CASI Level 4 Instructor, Sun Peaks.

At Sun Peaks Resort the snowboard programs are overseen by Ian Logan. He’s the assistant director of the sports school, president of the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI), a CASI level 4 instructor, a CASI evaluator, and has trained CASI evaluators for many years. Ian has been working full time in the snow sports teaching industry for 30 years, in several different countries, on two continents.

We keep very current with any updated methodologies and technical requirements of the CASI courses, and are very proud of the level of snowboard training that we provide to all students at Sun Peaks Resort Sports School. The exam success rate enjoyed by our course candidates is a testament to our commitment and quality of service.

Andy Armstrong – CASI Level 3 Instructor, Sun Peaks

Andy has been working for the Sun Peaks Sports School for 8 seasons now, with the last 4 devoted to WSC.

I love being involved with the gap programme, training new candidates to reach their goals. I began my instructor career on a similar programme so feel like I have a good understanding of what it takes.

Sun Peaks is a great place to be for a Canadian winter season. We have some of the best snow in this part of the world and the terrain is so varied and vast. I’m still finding new spots to ride after all these years! The local community are kind and very welcoming, its very easy to fall in love with the place and never leave.

Jason Simpson – Snow School Director & CSIA Level 4 Senior Examiner, Panorama.

Jason Simpson is a CSIA Level 4 senior instructor, and has been examining courses for over 20 years. He’s worked for snow schools and race clubs in Banff, Whistler and in New Zealand, as well as back in his home province of Nova Scotia, Canada.

Currently, Jason is the Snow School Director at Panorama Mountain Resort. Still in search of the perfect turn, Jason takes sessions with new instructors daily, throughout the winter.

Vince Lafontaine – Sports Director, Sun Peaks Resort
CSIA Level 4, CSIA Level 4 Course Examiner, Level 3 Race Coach, CSCF Level 1 Examiner, INTERSKI Congress Team Coach Korea 2007

He has worked alongside The Winter Sports Company over the last 5 years to devise instructor training courses that give our clients the best opportunity for success at CSIA and CASI levels 1, 2 and 3. Vincente is passionate about skiing and snowboarding and will always go the extra mile to ensure all our students improve and pass.

At the Sun Peaks Snow Sports School we pride ourselves on consistently providing guests with the finest mountain resort experience. We are all passionate about winter sports and love to share that with our guests, no wonder so many return year after year to ski and ride with us. You’ll find our School provides a very friendly and personalized level of service, with priority placed on exceeding our guests’ expectations, every time.

His knowledge and expertise mean he is well equipped to guide and encourage hopeful candidates through the programme, and this is reflected in the courses fantastic success rates.
