Canadian Visa FlagReady, Set, Go!
The pools are now open!

Great news…
If you’re looking to grab one of those all-important Canadian Working Holiday Visas, the application process for 2017 has just opened! Working holiday visas are available for lots of countries under the International Experience Canada program (or IEC for short). Applicants must be aged between 18 and 30 (0r 35 for some countries).

If you’re heading on one of our Internships in 2017, you can begin the application process for a Canadian Working Holiday Visa now, and will receive a comprehensive application support pack from us – so look out for this in your inbox.

In recent years there has been radical changes to the IEC process. The applications are no longer on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis, but rather a lottery system. This means that you can register now and you’ll be entered into a pool of applicants. Applicants are then selected at random and will receive an invitation to apply.

Unfortunately, as of yet, there is no further information about when invites will begin to be sent out. Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) have stated November, however last year they were sent out from mid-December until early July for the UK and from mid-December until the end of September for other IEC countries.

CIC have not yet announced quotas for 2017. For 2016 the UK had a quota of 5000 working holiday visas, with an additional 1000 released towards the end of the visa season. The quota for the UK was over subscribed and unfortunately there were still over 2000 left in the pool when the process closed.
Irish citizens were in a better position to receive an invite, with a quota of 7000, there were still spots available right up until the end of September when the 2016 rounds closed.

It is extremely likely there will be high demand for working holiday visas and you’ll want to be eligible for every round of release. Our advice is to register ASAP to ensure you don’t miss the first round!

How to apply

As the visas will be released through a lottery system, you need to be ready – which means creating a MyCIC account and entering the pool for the Working Holiday visa. On specific release dates, randomly selected of applicants will then be invited to apply for a visa. If you applied for an IEC visa last year and weren’t one of the lucky ones, you can use your existing login, but will need to re-enter the pool for 2017.

Four steps to your visa

1) Complete the Come to Canada questionnaire, which will take about 10 minutes. This checks your eligibility for the IEC Visa.

2) If you’re eligible for a visa, you’ll be given a personal reference code. Use this code to create your MyCIC account.

3) In your MyCIC account, complete and submit your IEC profile – you’re now fully registered for the Working Holiday visa pool 2017!

4) Keep your fingers, toes and everything else crossed in the hope you will receive an ‘invitation to apply’ for a visa when they are released! If you get an invitation, it means a visa has been reserved for you and you need to start the application in your MyCIC account within 10 days.
