Stance and Balance – developing a centred stance
To develop good stance try this drill on groomed blue runs at moderate speeds. Take a few little hops as you are changing edges. Focus on pushing off your feet so the hop is generated from the gound up. All joints should be involved in the hop, but there is no need to come off the snow very much at all.
Train to be a CSIA Level 1, 2 and 3 Ski Instructor
Tree Line Runs – Deep Powder Bowls – All Mountain – Park – Race Training – Back Country
Our objective at the Winter Sports Company is to deliver the best and most cost effective ski instructor courses available anywhere in the world.
To ensure you have the best possible chance of success it is important you spend as much time on the snow as possible, receive the best training available and have enough time to relax after a long day on the slopes.
High Level Training everyday
To accomplish this you will be trained for 5 hours per day at Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, Canada. Sun Peaks Resort is a high level training centre, regularly conducting ski instructor courses for level 3 and level 4 instructors, as well as being one of the only international race training centres in Canada.
The Ski-in Ski-out facilities allow you to start and finish your day without the hassle of long bus journeys, so your days are shorter but time on the slopes is longer.
We have added additional modules to our training programmes including race training (with an option to race every Friday), all terrain skills, and snow park coaching. We have also included in the price a certified CADS course – which is an introduction to teaching people with disabilities.
Become a level 3 ski instructor!
You can further enhance your skiing and teaching skills by taking part in our level 3 ski instructor training course, which will run in week 11.
By introducing more course content and giving you more on snow training time than any other company, we believe we have developed the best ski instructor courses available.

Sun Peaks Resort - British Columbia - Canada
Sun Peaks is a world-class ski-in-ski-out resort and the second largest ski area in British Columbia. Its fantastic ski and snowboard school will provide you with first-rate training and plenty of opportunities to shadow instructors at work.
In the second half of the turn, the basket of the pole is gradually brought forward in preparation for the next turn. As the pole comes forward, all the joints (ankles, knees and hips) are gradually moving inside the arc of the turn to create more edge angle.
Tip 1: Be fit, strengthen your legs, stomach, and lower back. Use the stairs, walking both up and down. Walking down actually stimulates the muscles used while skiing even more than walking up. When you are doing sit ups go slowly on the down and quicker on the up movement.
Tip 2: If you're buying new ski boots find a shop with a good reputation for service, not a big one with low prices. What you save in cash you may pay for in pain. Fitting ski boots properly takes specific knowledge that few sales people have mastered.
Snowboard Intermediate Tips
Once you have the basics what next? In order to advance in Snowboarding we need to know what movements to make and why we are making them.
Basic vs Dynamic
In the beginning we use basic body movements to turn, as we advance we can explore the movements our body can make to cause actions in our snowboard.
For most skiers, especially in hard snow conditions, edging is an essential skill. But one misconception of many advanced and expert skiers is that more edging is better. Edge increase must be adjusted according to the variety of turns, the skier’s speed, as well as terrain and snow conditions.
Good edging is not necessarily putting the skis at a maximum angle each turn. Heavy edging will slow down a skier and disrupt the glide of the skis and the real essence of downhill skiing. Keep in mind that you have on your feet a pair of skis and not a pair of brakes! Braking applies a maximum pressure on the edges when skis are across the hill. It is reassuring but kills the momentum of skiing.

What qualifications can I expect to get?
The qualifications you are working towards are:-
- CSIA - Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. (level 1 with level 2 optional)
- CASI - Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors. (level 1 with level 2 optional)
- CADS - Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers (for Skiers and Snowboarders)
With additional training included (optional)
- Equipment tuning
- Racing
- Freestyle

Are the qualifications recognised internationally?
Yes. We have clients who have worked all over the world including the Southern hemisphere countries of New Zealand, Australia and Chile.
In the Northern hemisphere we have clients who are working as far away as Japan, and as close as Scotland. Many have taken work in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Andora, Norway, Spain and of course several have gone back to work at one of the many resorts within Canada and the USA. Some clients complete our training programmes in April, and are working in the Southern hemisphere two months later in June.
What standard do I need to be?
Ideally you should be at least a low intermediate or better. i.e. be able to link turns down a blue run and not fazed on red runs, but we have had clients who have not had any experience at all who have passed Level l during the 11 week programme.
What is the age limit?
The minimum age for our courses is 16. There is no maximum age. If you feel fit enough then go for it. The oldest person we have trained (and passed) is 63.
What equipment do I need to bring with me?
You should own all of your own equipment including soft goods such as hats, gloves, thermals, trousers and jackets etc.
If you are buying new skis or a snowboard it is important to discuss the specification of it with us first, as there is certain criteria required that will help you during the course. It is possible to buy all of the equipment you require in the resort, and should you need any help we will be there to advise you accordingly.
How much money will I need to bring?
Other than the money for equipment purchases, you will need approximately £100 per week to buy lunches and any other evening entertainment you require.
What is the food like?
We proudly boast to provide the best and most varied food than any other instructor training company.
You will have a selection of meals available at 3 or 4 different restaurants every day throughout the duration of the whole instructor training programme. No other company provide you with as many options.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
All reasonable dietary needs are met, and the proprietors of the restaurants will be happy to discuss your dietary requirements personally.
What Is the nightlife like?
There are plenty of opportunities to party and many bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from including the local night club.
Sun Peaks Resort is not far away from the vibrant city of Kamloops (where many of the resort workers live and commute from every day). It is not uncommon to travel down to the city for some evening entertainment, such as hockey games, cinema, shopping malls, bars and night clubs etc.
