“I have recently completed a Level 1 Ski Instructor Course with The Winter Sports Company (Season 13/14) and I could not have had a better time. Deciding to take this course was one of the best decisions of my life. From the moment I decided to take the course to getting on the bus to leave could not have been easier and more laid back.

We were on the mountain seven days a week, with Monday to Friday, 9am till 3pm on the course. I was only on the course for the first level and my only regrets would be that I didn’t stay longer, even though I did try. All the instructors were fantastic and clearly love what they do, they are full of guidance and knowledge and know exactly when to give you a little extra push to reach your goals. The whole course feels like you are all friends helping one another to improve, there is no ‘teacher/student’ strict boundaries which makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

We were fortunate enough to be on the same floor and adjacent to one another in the Hearthstone Lodge which provided a great spot to gather for lunches and after dinner. As well as easy room hopping to locate the most entertaining room, and avoid those who were sleeping after a hard day on the mountain! The Hearthstone Lodge was great, all the staff were helpful and we got to know a few of them quite well. Our rooms were ‘cosy’ especially with three girls but you soon get use to it. After all, there are no secrets on the mountain. There is also an open fire in each room which is fantastic when you come in to defrost.

I have certainly improved my own skiing and feel very confident with being able to teach others of all ages. The people you meet on the mountain and on this course are those you will have for life. The memories you make with your new snow bums are once in a life time, it certainly wasn’t easy leaving them all up the mountain to go back to ‘warm’ UK (it had been hitting -30 degrees in Sun Peaks – mild chill).

The Winter Sports Company have been great from the moment I signed up and I would highly recommend anyone interested in doing a Ski or Snowboarding course to contact Winter Sports.

Hopefully see you back on the mountain soon,

Courtney Rose
