High Level Training everyday
To accomplish this you will be trained for 5 hours per day at Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia, Canada. Sun Peaks Resort is a high level training centre, regularly conducting ski instructor courses for level 3 and level 4 instructors, as well as being one of the only international race training centres in Canada.
The Ski-in Ski-out facilities allow you to start and finish your day without the hassle of long bus journeys, so your days are shorter but time on the slopes is longer.

CSIA Level 1 & 2 and CASI Level 1 & 2 Programmes
At Sun Peaks you ski or ride to work every day. No early starts, or buses to catch.
Welcome Meeting
On the first morning there will be an introductory meeting. The rest of the day we will spend showing you around the town, sorting out lift passes and meeting instructors. Those of you buying equipment will have ample opportunity to do so and will be able to take advantage of some of the great deals available.
Course Procedure for CSIA Skiers and CASI Snowboarders
Five hours on snow coaching a day, five days a week. Total 25 hours per week.
On the morning of your first day of training you will be assessed and sorted in to groups according to ability.
- Week 1-3, Level 1 instructor training. 25 hours per week.
- Week 4, Level 1 instructor course/exam and assessment. Approx 25 hours. Snowboarders please note that helmets are mandatory for level 1 & level 2 exams.
- Week 5, Shadowing and teaching. You will be working closely with the snow school and using your newly acquired level 1 qualification.
- Week 6 - 9, Level 2 instructor training. 25 hours per week.
- Week 10, Level 2 instructor course/exam and assessment. Approx 32 hours.
- Week 11, Free skiing and Snowboarding and the opportunity to take further qualifications. Start of level 3 CSIA instructor training.
This is an outline plan of the 11-week course and may change slightly. You are encouraged to take other courses once you have passed Level 1. These can be arranged and fitted in with Level 2 training.
Group Training Ratios
With an average of eight students to each instructor you will receive an exceptional level of personal attention, increasing your likelihood of success.
Outline
The course provides on-mountain training five hours per day, five days a week.
Skiing / Snowboarding Techniques
First instructors will assess your current ability. Then you will be taken back to basics and good habits introduced in to your technique. We build from there, using proven methods so your ability significantly improves throughout the programme.
Teaching and Work Experience
During the training programme you will be shown how to plan lessons and how to handle classes effectively. This will be learnt through practical situations while you are shadowing and teaching with an instructor and dealing with real customers.
You are encouraged to shadow an instructor as often as you can in order to gain as much experience as possible.
Customer Service Training
Becoming a good ski or snowboard instructor is not just about being a good skier or rider; it is about working with people. Customer service is essential and is highlighted throughout the programme and particularly during the level 1 & 2 course / exams.
Equipment Maintenance
Maintenance of your equipment is vital if you wish to get months of consecutive use out of it. We run a module on equipment tuning delivered by one of the equipment maintenance departments at Sun Peaks Resort.

Guaranteed Employment with “The Winter Sports Company”
There is huge demand for ski and snowboard instructors all over the world, especially during peak periods. If you are determined to work within the industry and have qualified as a ski instructor or snowboard instructor you should be able to find employment, and we are there to help. There are hundreds of instructor jobs available and the following season you could find yourself working anywhere in the world, including one of the many resorts in Australasia.

Vincent Lafontaine, the Sun Peaks Resort sports director, and Ian Logan, the recruitment officer, are in a position to offer full time employment to all of our successful level 2 instructors every season.
Providing you demonstrate respect for the “Alpine Code of Conduct”, and you are punctual and reliable throughout the programme, you will be invited for an interview with Vincent Lafontaine and Ian Logan, with a view to working at Sun Peaks Resort the following season.
This is an exclusive agreement between The Winter Sports Company and Sun Peaks Resort Corporation, and is a great demonstration of the confidence they have in our company, and in their own training instructor and facilities.
Mount Niseko – Japan
We have an exclusive agreement with Mount Niseko ski school and can guarantee work to at least 6 of our ski or snowboard instructors every season. This exclusive agreement is only available to The Winter Sports Company and is a demonstration of the confidence ski and snowboard schools have in our training programmes.
We provide all our clients past and present with regular updates of ski instructor jobs and snowboard instructor jobs that become available worldwide.
Interviews for Level 1 and Level 2 Instructors
You will have the opportunity to work in Europe and Canada every season - including the season you train in. We have an agreement with a Canadian ski school who are happy to employ our Level 1 qualified instructors. This is an on-going agreement and you can if you wish work a full season as a level 1 instructor.
We will conduct interviews towards the end of the course and successful applicants will be offered work in Canada and up to four weeks work in Europe. Anyone who completes the level 1 course in February could be working in the Alps at Easter!

What qualifications can I expect to get?
The qualifications you are working towards are:-
- CSIA - Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance. (level 1 with level 2 optional)

Are the qualifications recognised internationally?
Yes. We have clients who have worked all over the world including the Southern hemisphere countries of New Zealand, Australia and Chile.
In the Northern hemisphere we have clients who are working as far away as Japan, and as close as Scotland. Many have taken work in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, Andora, Norway, Spain and of course several have gone back to work at one of the many resorts within Canada and the USA. Some clients complete our training programmes in April, and are working in the Southern hemisphere two months later in June.
What standard do I need to be?
Ideally you should be at least a low intermediate or better. i.e. be able to link turns down a blue run and not fazed on red runs, but we have had clients who have not had any experience at all who have passed Level l during the 11 week programme.
What is the age limit?
The minimum age for our courses is 16. There is no maximum age. If you feel fit enough then go for it. The oldest person we have trained (and passed) is 63.
What equipment do I need to bring with me?
You should own all of your own equipment including soft goods such as hats, gloves, thermals, trousers and jackets etc.
If you are buying new skis or a snowboard it is important to discuss the specification of it with us first, as there is certain criteria required that will help you during the course. It is possible to buy all of the equipment you require in the resort, and should you need any help we will be there to advise you accordingly.
How much money will I need to bring?
Other than the money for equipment purchases, you will need approximately £100 per week to buy lunches and any other evening entertainment you require.
What is the food like?
We proudly boast to provide the best and most varied food than any other instructor training company.
You will have a selection of meals available at 3 or 4 different restaurants every day throughout the duration of the whole instructor training programme. No other company provide you with as many options.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
All reasonable dietary needs are met, and the proprietors of the restaurants will be happy to discuss your dietary requirements personally.
What Is the nightlife like?
There are plenty of opportunities to party and many bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from including the local night club.
Sun Peaks Resort is not far away from the vibrant city of Kamloops (where many of the resort workers live and commute from every day). It is not uncommon to travel down to the city for some evening entertainment, such as hockey games, cinema, shopping malls, bars and night clubs etc.
