Full Season Ski Instructor Internship, in Sun Peaks – 2012
Josh Terry completed a season’s internship with the Winter Sports Company in 2012. He trained and qualified for his level 1 and 2 CSIA ski instructor certification in Sun Peaks Resort, Canada.
After qualification he went to work for Edmonton ski club where he gave private lessons, worked with school groups and helped out in the kids club.
With his first season under his belt, Josh returned home and looked for work for the following season.
In 2013 he spent his winter in Japan working for Evergreen International Ski School.
Josh flourished in Japan. He worked primarily for the Kids club and gave private lessons to adults progressing to higher end coaching. However, his own skiing had improved so much he was invited to become part of the ski school demo team.
Josh is good at instructing children. And whilst in Japan he was asked to go to other resorts to teach kids. His talents were spotted and Evergreen also asked him to help with the Yeti Club (children’s daycare) and he eventually became the Day Care Supervisor.
He did not return home… Instead he followed the snow to Australia and in 2014 was taken on at Mount Hotham as chief of timing for the Racing and Events Department.
Josh was responsible for all timing and calculation of ski races. The high point of his season down under was officiating at the Australia and New Zealand Continental Cup Ski and Board Cross.
Josh is finishing his Aussie season enjoying timing for GS and slalom and continuing his personal ski improvement. He is also training toward his APSI level 3 (impressive).
So what next for Josh?
He is following the snow once again and returning to Japan. He can look forward to another season instructing, racing and improving – this time as a Supervisor with increased wages and responsibilities.
“The Winter Sports Company organised my internship so that I received high quality training and they helped me to pass both level 1 and 2 in my first season. They continued to support me and supplied me with contacts for my first season teaching. The Internship course was great and packed full of experience. It definitely helped me when applying for jobs. It made me stand out in front of the crowd. Without The Winter Sports Company I would not be where I am today.” – Josh Terry
