Stance and Balance – developing a centred stance

Stance and Balance – developing a centred stance

To develop good stance try this drill on groomed blue runs at moderate speeds. Take a few little hops as you are changing edges. Focus on pushing off your feet so the hop is generated from the gound up. All joints should be involved in the hop, but there is no need to come off the snow very much at all.

On the morning of your first day of training you will be assessed and sorted in to groups according to ability.

  • Week 4, Level 1 instructor course/exam and assessment. Approx 25 hours. Snowboarders please note that helmets are mandatory for level 1 & level 2 exams.

Outline

The course provides on-mountain training five hours per day, five days a week.

Skiing / Snowboarding Techniques

First instructors will assess your current ability. Then you will be taken back to basics and good habits introduced in to your technique. We build from there, using proven methods so your ability significantly improves throughout the programme.

Teaching and Work Experience

During the training programme you will be shown how to plan lessons and how to handle classes effectively. This will be learnt through practical situations while you are shadowing and teaching with an instructor and dealing with real customers.

You are encouraged to shadow an instructor as often as you can in order to gain as much experience as possible.

Customer Service Training

Becoming a good ski or snowboard instructor is not just about being a good skier or rider; it is about working with people. Customer service is essential and is highlighted throughout the programme and particularly during the level 1 & 2 course / exams.

Equipment Maintenance

Maintenance of your equipment is vital if you wish to get months of consecutive use out of it. We run a module on equipment tuning delivered by one of the equipment maintenance departments at Sun Peaks Resort.

How do I become a better skier

How do I become a better skier

How to become a better skier

Recreational skiing has become one of Britain’s most popular winter pastimes and every season people are asking themselves “How do I become a better skier”

The answer is to take ski lessons as often as possible, but for some this doesn’t always fit in with the group you are with, or “just isn’t quite enough” -  As it normally takes a couple of days to get back to the standard you were the previous ski holiday.

Every season we receive calls from people asking us “How do I become a better skier” and “How can I sustain the standards once I achieve them”?

After considering this we believe the ideal solution is to take part in an intense ski improvement camp which can include a ski instructor exam at the end. Successful applicants will become ski instructors and therefore become members of an international organisation who will keep you up to date with all the information you need in order to maintain your knowledge of the industry.

Not everyone has considered becoming a ski instructor, but the advantages are immense and can continue to be so for many years to come.

As a qualified ski instructor you can teach throughout Europe for a little as one week each season. This includes all your transport, food, uniform, plenty of free skiing and a nice pay packet at the end of the week. In effect you can enjoying free ski holidays for as long as you like and at the same time be part of an elite group of professionals.

For more information go to our All Inclusive page of the web site, or contact us by email or phone anytime.
