New Career – GAP Year or Career Break
Have you ever contemplated a few of the real dream careers out there? Becoming a ski or snowboard instructor is probably close to the surface of most people’s list of potential dream jobs. What can beat spending your day on the slopes, with “like minded” people teaching the sport you love?
If you already ski or snowboard, then becoming a ski instructor or snowboard instructor might be easier than you imagine. All it requires to turn your passion into a reality is a snowboard instructor training course or a ski instructor training course. In this article, we look at the things you should consider before investing in a snowboard or ski instructor training course.
Choosing - Which Ski Instructor Course – Which Snowboard Instructor Course
The price of a ski Instructor Training Course or Snowboard Instructor Training Course has to be seriously considered so it must be the first and last thing you look at when selecting the right company. This article explains what to look out for and how to make your decision once you have decided to invest in your career, GAP Year or career break.
Location
When you choose a ski or snowboard instructor training course, you may have a country or location in mind. This may determine the type of qualification you are able to attain. Look for companies who are committed to one resort. Companies with several resorts to choose from often point you towards their quietest, or cancel your chosen resort if they don’t receive enough bookings for it.
Select a resort which will suit your individual needs and with suitable terrain. Remember you are there for 3 months so make sure the area is large enough.
Ski in – Ski out Resorts
Always choose a resort where you can ski or snowboard from the hotel door. You DO NOT want to have to travel to the slopes on a bus every day. Bus journeys to the slopes make the days long and tiring. If you miss the bus you miss your training or face expensive taxi fares. It also stops you from training at weekends as you become fed up with the long journeys.
Your Security
Always select a company who provide flights and have the correct licenses to operate. ATOL registered companies are “secure” and any investment you make with them is assured through their ATOL membership.
Qualifications
When you choose a snowboard instructor course or a ski instructor course you need to be thinking about the form of license you are going to attain at the end of the programme. You want to know that at the end of the training course, you will receive an international qualification, which allows you to work anywhere in the world.
The Canadian CSIA for ski and CASI for snowboard qualifications are recognised as one of the best in the world, and there are several companies who can provide you with the training you require.
The Instructors
When you choose a ski instructor training course or snowboard instructor training course, you need to be sure that the individuals who are providing your training are highly qualified professionals. Seek out companies who provide courses that are run and provided by ski or snowboard instructors, and with people who have a real sporting knowledge in the skiing and snowboarding industry.
Food and Accommodation
Remember you are living in the accommodation for up to 12 weeks so make sure you are going to be comfortable. You also want feeding everyday so check out how many days your meals will be provided.
Several companies may appear to be cheaper, but when you read the finer details you will find that breakfast and evening meals are only served 4 or 5 days per week. The other days you are left to your own devices and paying for your own food in resort is very expensive.
The Career Possibilities
Some people do a ski instructor course or snowboard instructor course to simply improve their skills or for the fun of it. Some are taking a gap year and some are seriously looking at starting career in winter sports instruction.
Once qualified you can use your newly acquired qualification to teach either part time or full time, but make sure the company you invest with are prepared to assist you in finding work afterwards. Check out each companies “Employment Section”. If they don’t have one, disregard them straight away.
Good training companies offer assistance with work placement after you have qualified, and some have work already arranged for their recently qualified instructors with either the snow school you have trained with, and/or with ski schools from around the world. These are the companies you should seriously consider as they are well respected throughout the industry, simply because ski and snowboard schools obviously have great faith in the instructors they are providing.
Evaluate
Always check out the companies “All Inclusive” page to ensure they tick all the right boxes.
Whether you are starting a new career, taking a GAP year, or having a career break, and you evaluate any possible snowboard or ski instructor courses according to these principles, you should find that you get exactly what you are looking for.
