“The course was split into equal measures of riding and teaching so we were confident in both areas going into the exam. And of course there were a fair few days we just rode powder and trees! The accommodation at the Hearthstone Lodge was comfortable and felt like home after just a few days.”
I completed the 11 week snowboard instructor course in Sun Peaks where I qualified as a level 1 and level 2 snowboard instructor.
Being the only girl in the snowboard group was pretty intimidating at first (especially when I was greeted by 30 boys at the airport!) But I soon realised that being in a group of guys would force me to push my riding to its limits to keep up with them. We always had such a laugh in lessons and I had definitely became an honorary boy by the end of the season!
The course was split into equal measures of riding and teaching so we were confident in both areas going into the exam. And of course there were a fair few days we just rode powder and trees!
Our instructors made sure we had a good mix of riding different terrain, moguls, steeps, powder and trees – we did it all, and although it could be challenging, we always had a blast.
The accommodation at the Hearthstone Lodge was comfortable and felt like home after just a few days. It was great living with your course mates and the rooms supplied everything you could need. Their DVD collection is definitely worth a mention, and many evenings were spent chilling out in the hot tubs and and watching films with mates.
I chose The Winter Sports Company because of a great first impression. Prior to the course, Steve was so prompt and reassuring replying to my emails and after a great recommendation from a friend, I knew the WSC were the people to go with. Even now after the course, Steve and Karen have been great at providing links with snow schools and possible contacts for jobs.
Not only do you leave with a qualification, you leave with a bunch of new mates and a tonne of awesome memories.
