On-Piste Technical Training
Technical specialised training designed for Winter Sports by the Revelstoke Snow school. On Snow Training is provided by highly experienced freeride instructors. Their main goal is to eliminate lousy riding habits, strengthen your technique, and improve consistency for upcoming events. A season pass will allow you full access to the mountain through and beyond your course in case you want to stay on for longer, which inevitably happens!
Off-Piste Tactical Training
This period is about forging new skills and building on existing talent. Gain tactics and tools for developing off-piste riding skills in various environments. Develop terrain adaptation and awareness in a changing mountain environment and understand steep terrain, deep snow, glades, ungroomed conditions, bumps, and low visibility conditions.
NUEC I (Level 2)
A fast-paced, practical-based 4-day curriculum intended for those who operate in remote areas for multiple-day trips or work in conjunction with a tiered response system such as ski patrol or search & rescue teams. This program is intended to give the participants the knowledge and skills to evaluate medical emergencies and make decisions concerning field treatment and evacuation priorities. You can upgrade to NUEC A (Level 3) if booked early or logistics allow.
CASI Level 1
The first step in a four-level system. Level 1 qualifies you to teach children and adults from a beginner level to an intermediate. During your training and exam, you will be exposed to CASI riding and teaching methodology and learn what it means to be a snowboard professional. This is an optional 3 days and not mandatory. Individuals can pay for this separately.
CASI Level 2
Those choosing to stay on after the 11 weeks can either free ride and enjoy the Spring conditions and the laid-back atmosphere or keep your nose to the grindstone and attempt a compressed Level 2 training programme over 3 weeks focusing purely on instructor techniques to fast-track you through the syllabus, culminating in the CASI Level 2 exams.
Mountain Operations Training
Revelstokes very own Ski Patrol Team will show you a glimpse of their world over the final 7 weeks, showing you all the skills that they’ve honed over the years, giving you practical knowledge and vital skills that they utilise throughout their Winter & Summer seasons, rescuing the general public both on skis or mtb bikes. Take in as much as you can from these highly skilled individuals as they imbibe you with topics covering tree wells, rope skills, challenging first-aid scenarios, survival skills, weather analysis, GPS navigation, radio comms and evacuation techniques often used on a seasonal basis.
Avalanche Skills Training
In AST 1, you’ll learn to recognize avalanche terrain, understand the forecast, plan your trips, and perform a companion rescue. Understanding the snowpack and dealing with rescue techniques using your probe, shovel and transceiver. See below for our upgrade option for those early bookers.
Companion Rescue
The Companion Rescue Skills course is an essential refresher for those with previous training and a great way to improve the rescue skills you learned in your AST 1. This hands-on, one-day course takes place in the field and delves into multiple casualty rescue scenarios, building on your existing knowledge of the terrain and equipment.
Intro To Touring & Backcountry Guiding
RMR’s fully qualified ACMG guides will teach you about snow safety and familiarisation with equipment to prepare you for your first guided introductory backcountry tour. Further into the course, you will develop techniques to understand terrain assessment, hazard analysis and trip planning. More guided backcountry tours and a visit to the helipad for a Helicopter pickup run-through and familiarisation. This is essential if deciding on any future heli-assisted Bolt ons or activities.
Additional Training Option – ASVAR Level 1
ASVAR Level 1 – Option to upgrade the AST training to the professional Canadian Avalanche Association’s Avalanche Search & Rescue) £950. 4 days in person, mandatory online pre-course, written and practical assessment. This is a serious Avalanche programme that lasts for over four intense days. Please decide if you want this option in advance, as it books up quickly.
