Apartments by the Lake & Town living

It is located in the Canadian working town of Invermere, not far from the Lake, which is host to the largest ice skating rink in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records! It’s also only 25 minutes from Panorama and has some excellent accommodation. The bus stop is conveniently located right outside. Supermarkets or eateries are evenly spread throughout Invermere’s town centre.

Apartments and hotel rooms with large double beds offer spacious two-person rooms as standard. A single room with or without cooking facilities is also relatively affordable for those wanting more privacy. Book early, though, as places tend to go quickly.

Revel-Stokers will be staying in a townhouse or hotel, depending on the time of booking. Right in the town centre and a stone’s throw from the shops, swimming pool, bars and restaurants. It doesn’t get more convenient than this.

The 8 week Dojo

Panorama is a hidden gem of a resort – an Alpine-style, ski-in-ski-out hideaway nestled deep in British Columbia’s Purcell mountains. Panorama has a village feel, but it’s far from sleepy.

With a vast ski area and choice of terrain on offer – including one of the largest vertical drops in North America and the powder heaven that is Taynton Bowl – there’s enough to keep your adventure going for months, no matter what your level.

If the Taynton Bowl isn’t enough, you can head to the Extreme Dream Zone. This is located on the front side of the Taynton Bowl and is all double black diamond terrain, with tight trees and big moguls. And not forgetting Never Never Land – Panorama’s longest trail at 5.5km long. It starts at the top of the Taynton Bowl as a double black diamond steep, narrow gully before winding out onto a fast groomed, tree-lined run that leads into the Village.

Then there’s Rockstar Terrain Park, 1km long with over 6 acres of terrain. Rockstar is littered with massive jumps, tabletops, kickers, boxes and rails. The park is located off the Mile 1 express on the Powder trail.

Powder-Land

After eight weeks at Panorama,  you will be ready for new challenges, and they don’t come much better than this. For those booked onto the 12-week course, you are about to understand why we have a saying at Winter Sports. “Sheep go to Whistler, but Goats Go To Revelstoke.”

A monster of a mountain, the tallest vertical in North America and a melting pot for international pros and powder junkies. Revelstoke is a relatively new resort but has quickly made a name for itself. A towering presence, After 2 Gondolas, you are still nowhere near the top of this impressive mountain, with a great vibe on and off the hill with popular eateries worldwide.

It will exceed your expectations, so get ready for some epic conditions.

Fuel up

Cater for yourself in Invermere, either in self-catered apartments or one of the town’s eateries. There is also a 10-15% discount at all resort-owned restaurants, bars, and cafes. A great mix of takeaways and restaurants can be found in Invermere to keep you well-fuelled up for the following days. In addition, group meals will be arranged for big get-togethers in the resort, town, or at the Grey Wolf Lodge.

Choose the catered option and experience a mix of local fusion takeaways, home-cooked one-pot wonders, and Invermere’s popular restaurants. The Great Hall up in Panorama will also provide great fuel for those hungry muscles.

When in Revelstoke, you will be treated to four breakfasts and dinners per week prepared by our in-house chef in a relaxed family dining style.

Before & After

Snow Ready Fitness Plan

Created for Winter Sports by a personal trainer and instructor, this 8-week pre-season fitness programme targets the muscle groups used in skiing and snowboarding and will ensure you are snow-fit in time for the start of your course.

Visa Assistance & Guaranteed Work Interview

We have partnerships and connections with several sports schools worldwide and offer a guaranteed interview with Panorama for the following season after you successfully complete your Level 2. We also provide two further guaranteed interviews at resorts in Canada. Comprehensive advice and assistance are given to all Winter Sports clients when applying for working holiday visas.

Weekly Schedule

Professional coaching is provided four days a week, typically on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday. Wednesdays and weekends can be spent shadowing ski school & free skiing. However, you will receive a training guide in the lead-up to the course.

Week 1

Settling in, resort orientation and first days on snow. During your first few training days, the main goal is to get you comfortable on your board again.  It’s okay to be a little rusty in week one, but you will be given time to find your feet again. The trainers are there to help and will set up an environment to help you succeed. Beyond that, the focus will be developing your riding. The training team will closely examine your riding, assessing your strengths and weaknesses whilst putting together a plan to move you forward. The trainers will utilise video analysis throughout the week so that you develop an understanding of your riding. Be open to their feedback; you might hear some things that are entirely new to you

Week 2

CASI Standards – Ride improvement and technique – including video analysis. Moving into the second week, the intensity ramp up a little. Now, your trainers have begun preparing you for the exam. There is an introduction to teaching, which will involve rider assessment, video, practice teaching, safety, lesson plans and teaching children. As always, there will be a continued focus on your riding, ensuring you’re progressing and able to demonstrate precisely. Time will be spent on low-end demonstrations and the lesson plans that make up your Level 1 exam; this involves teaching a beginner rider to an intermediate snowboarder. This is an intense couple of weeks, so staying well-rested, hydrated and well-fed will be necessary. A tuning clinic is also included in week two to ensure your kit stays in top condition throughout the course.

Week 3

Continued improvement & CASI Level 1 course and exam. Final preparations will put you in the best position to perform during the exam. This week, you will understand everything expected of you during the exam and be given opportunities to practice your teaching and demonstrations. This is a stress-free environment, and your trainers support you. By the end of this last week of training, your trainers will have explained precisely what is expected of you during your exam. There will be some off-snow preparation and further reading for you to review in the days leading up to the exam.

Week 4

The first week of level 2 training will introduce you to the riding criteria for the L2. This includes bumps, short turns and varied free runs. You will be exposed to more challenging terrain, and your skills will develop in line with the Level 2 standards. You will be able to complete some of your optional bolt-ons during this period, including the Avalanche Skills Training. These will be booked in advance and depend on the final training schedule so that exact dates may change.

Week 5

Video analysis and indoor movement analysis sessions. There will be time off for freeriding, exploring different mountains, or just some time out of boots. Kicking Horse, Sunshine, Lake Louise, and Fernie are just a few hour’s drive away, and they are fantastic places to visit on one of your days off. The local town of Invermere has some great cafes and breakfast spots. You can also go ice skating along the world’s longest ice skating track!!

Week 6 & 7

Teaching and riding practice ahead of CASI Level 2 Exams. Off-Piste tactics training. Spend time in Taynton Bowl learning to ride off-piste with more skill and confidence. Learn how to pick the line, freeride into softer snow and stay safe in all mountain terrain. This will be an intense week as these will be the last few training days before your modules and exams in weeks seven and eight. Use this time to refine your skills and understand the level 2 criteria. Take the time to read through the CASI Level 2 candidate guide for a more in-depth understanding of the Level 2 process.

Week 8

Final training days and CASI Level 2 Exam. Wrapping up your stay at Panorama Mountain Resort before making the scenic trip along the highway through Rogers Pass to Revelstoke.

Week 9

A more leisurely pace this week to recoup and recover after all the hard work but preparing you for the dangers lurking in these big powder venues. Tree wells & All Mountain Safety Module, AST 1 & Companion Rescue.

Week 10

After settling in and having been familiarized with the new terrain at Revelstoke, we will ramp up the programme with the introduction to freeride performance with advanced training in more challenging terrain.

Week 11

Consolidating new techniques, One to one feedback. For those who would like the opportunity to move towards the level 3 criteria, there will be more specific level 3 training provided, covering teaching criteria and improved riding standards.

Week 12

Before you know it, you’ve entered the final week. We don’t set the schedule too strictly now, giving you opportunities to fill the final week as you wish. Everyones goals are different but all agree by this stage that after 11 weeks of intense riding a pat on the back, some fun days, a cold beer and some down time is needed. Make the most of the festivals and BBQ’s as we wind down to the end of a truly epic adventure.

We are constantly tweaking and improving. With a 100% pass rate last year at Level 2, excellent accommodation, fantastic dual mountain terrain and competitive prices, this no-nonsense course is proving challenging to beat.
