SKI PATROL COURSE – 8 WEEKS – PANORAMA, CANADA
INCLUDING HELI-SKIING

Ski Patrollers are part of an elite management team, and employees need to be well prepared and trained to a very high standard. It's not for the faint hearted and requires a good level of skill for getting around the mountain in all conditions. You learn to rescue and administer first aid on the mountain, as well as avalanche control, rope rescue and lift evacuation, it's full on but extremely rewarding.

What's included
The Trip

Flights
Courses can be booked with or without flights - enabling you maximum flexibility.
Flights depart from London, UK. Flights from alternative airports can be arranged, contact us for up to date prices.

Transfers
Outbound and return transfers are included as standard with all bookings including flights.

Self Catered Shared Apartment Accommodation
Prices are based on quad share bedrooms.
Price for twin £7450.
We can accommodate couples and friendship groups upon request.A limited number of single rooms are available for an additional £300 per week.

Season lift pass
You lift pass is season long, this means if you decide to add additional weeks to your course your lift pass will be valid.
Lift pass benefits include discounts in selected shops and restaurants as well as on some activities, equipment rentals, maintenance and repairs.

Resort Representative
A rep is in resort to oversee the course. Reps are knowledgeable about the resort, qualifications and training, and have often taken part on the course previously.

Training

Ski Patrol Training Programme
Training covers 13 modules. A full breakdown of module content can be found on our ski patrol qualifications page.

  • Module 1: CPR – BLS for Healthcare Professionals
  • Module 2: Non-Urban Occupational Emergency Care, Level 3
  • Module 3: Advanced Protocol Training
  • Module 4: Rope Rescue
  • Module 5: Aerial Lift Evacuation & Self Evacuation
  • Module 6: Patient Extrication & Evacuation
  • Module 7: Avalanche Skills Training, Level 1
  • Module 8: Risk Management
  • Module 9: Incident Investigation
  • Module 10: General Patrolling
  • Module 11: Helicopter Orientation, Air Evacuation, Air Rescue
  • Module 12: GPS & Compass Orientation
  • Module 13: Mentoring

Specialist Equipment
All specialist equipment required for training is provided as part of the course.
You will receive a pack with all essential equipment required to work with ski patrol. Items include Avalanche safety gear: probe, shovel, transceiver, first aid supplies and medical equipment. Back packs are on loan and must be returned in good condition. They can be purchased at the end of the course in resort if requested.

Heli-Skiing/Boarding
At the end of the course, after completing the ski patrol programme, a guided heli-skiing trip is arranged with RK Heli-ski. All heli-skiing equipment is provided (powder skis/poles) and powder-pack including transceiver and other back-country equipment.

Additional Training Options
Become ultra employable and become a ski or snowboard instructor too. CSIA level 1 and CASI level 1 are available by joining the Ski Patrol + Instructor level 1 course starting in January.

Snow Ready Fitness Plan
Created for Winter Sports by a personal trainer & instructor, this 8 week pre-season fitness programme targets the muscle groups used in skiing & snowboarding and will make sure you are snow-fit in time for the start of your course.

Not included in the course price is the core text book. Outdoor Emergency Care – 5th Edition costs approx £89.99 and must be purchased prior to the course start date.

Accommodation

Lower Village Apartments

These Lower Village 2-3 bedroom apartments are a cozy home away from home with easy access to the mountain via the Toby Chair or free Village Gondola. With a fully equipped kitchen and separate lounge area with open fire place, these apartments make it easy to enjoy an extended stay in Panorama. The Panorama hot springs are available to all resort guests but at both lodges you will also find out door hot tubs that are only available to the residents.

Schedule

Ski Patrol training is provided 5 days a week, typically Monday-Friday. Day's off and weekends can be spent shadowing ski school & free-skiing.

Week 1: Settling in, resort orientation and acclimatisation. Introduction to general ski patrolling. Rope Rescue.
Week 2: Aerial lift evacuation & self evacuation, introctution to GPS & Compass, Risk Management and Incident Investigation.
Week 3: Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 and mentoring with Ski Patrol
Week 4: Non-Urban Occupational Emergency Care, Level 3
Week 5: Non-Urban Occupational Emergency Care, Level 3
Week 6: Advanced Protocol, Patient Extrication Evacuation, Heli-Orientation & Air Evacuation
Week 7-8: On-mountain mentoring with Panorama Ski Patrol, Heli-skiing day with RK Heli-ski and end of season celebrations.

This schedule is a guide and may change. The modules covered in the training programme  provide participants with the certifications required to be a professional ski patroller.

You’ll be first on the mountain preparing the slopes for the day, looking after injured guests and making sure everyone gets down the mountain safely when the mountain closes. You’ll learn about and get certified in outdoor emergency patient care, avalanche control, air rescue, helicopter orientation, toboggan handling, mountaineering and many other essential and fascinating skills that will help you find work within the Ski Patrol Service.
