The Day Before Level 1

CASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor Course

Here are all our guys still smiling the day before they start their CSIA Level 1 Ski instructor course and CASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor Course at Sun Peaks Resort.

A big thanks must go to all our instructors from Sun Peaks Resort Sports School for all their hard work and enthusiasm.

Good luck guys!

And the Day the Level 2 Course Begins …………..

CSIA Ski Instructor Course

Two groups of skiers begin their CSIA Level 2 Ski Instructor Course today. Here is Vincent Lafontaine, Sports Director at Sun Peaks, as one of the course conductors putting our guys at ease before they start their week.

In the centre wearing blue trousers and a patterned jacket is Vicky Rutherford. Vicky was on the 11 week snowboard instructor course in 2012 and was successful last year in achieving CASI Level 1 and Level 2 certification as well as CSIA Level 1 ski instructor. She has returned to Sun Peaks this year to work as an instructor and has joined our group to try to do the double and get her CSIA Level 2 ski instructor badge. Good luck, Vicky.

And what to expect…..

Over this coming week skiers on the CSIA Level 1 ski instructor course will be assessed on their skiing ability and taught the basic elements on how to teach a beginner to ski. They have already been working towards this qualification and should feel comfortable in their groups to give brief lessons in snow plough and fast track to parallel. And as for their skiing – it is often amazing to see how fast they can improve once instructed in the basics.

The snowboarders on the CASI Level 1 snowboard instructor course will have similar experiences. Today I spotted Andy working his group on the nursery slopes preparing them to give lessons in sliding and the pendulum (falling leaf). They all looked great, even on the button lift.

And as for those guys on the Level 2 Course – just enjoy. There can be nothing better than having a Level 4 ski instructor for 5 days improving your technique and providing clear explanations of how to observe and teach skiing.

Results to follow at the end of the week.
