Hidden Valley ResortCanada

Alberta’s Hidden Gem

Hidden Valley is a small, unique community resort next to Elkwater and close to the city of Medicine Hat. Nestled in the Cypress Hills provincial park, the resort is currently operated by Alberta Parks and enjoys a compressed season, typically operating mid-December to mid-March.

The mountain environment provides stunning scenery over the prairies, and being a national park, there is always the opportunity to spot wildlife. The nearby town of Elkwater has plenty of facilities and trails with restaurants, a café, and hotel.

In Elkwater, you can also enjoy snow-shoeing, downhill luge, fat biking trails, cross country skiing and ice skating trails.

Hidden Valley is open Wednesday to Sunday with extended hours during high season.

Perfect for trainee ski instructors, Hidden valley is well known for consistent snow conditions, great facilities and friendly people. The mountain trails range from gentle beginners slopes, cruising blues for intermediates to challenging terrain for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

The terrain park offers all the features you need, with rails, boxes, barrel taps and various sizes of jumps. Re-modelled at least twice per season, this gives variety and progression for all levels of ability. There is also a mini park, a great place for newbie sliders and riders to start in a less intimidating environment.

Hidden Valley Ski Season

The best guide for you

A season at Hidden Valley is the best of both worlds – a small community vibe working at a locals ski hill, with plenty of opportunity for travelling Alberta and other areas in Canada.

Working at Hidden Valley, interns easily earn double compared to those working at non-government owned resorts. The resort is open Wednesday – Sunday each week and interns are guaranteed 24 hours of work per week, but often find themselves working 35-40 hours and earning far more money than they can spend!

Food & Entertainment

Know where to go for food, drink and entertainment

Less than an hours drive from Hidden Valley is the city of Medicine Hat, where you will find everything you need from grocery stores and a shopping mall to a cinema and all plenty of restaurant and bars. It’s easy to find a ride to Medicine Hat from Hidden Valley, as a small community you will quickly know everyone and ride-sharing into town is the way of life.

A top benefit of working at Hidden Valley, everyone has two days off a week (Monday and Tuesday) and there are plenty of opportunities to take a long weekend – perfect for a mini-road trip. Those craving a big mountain fix, Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise and Castle Mountain are just a few hours car ride away and as an added bonus, staff from Hidden Valley get free lift passes for Castle. Another great road trip is a weekend to Edmonton – where it’s easy to spend your hard earned cash. At the West Edmonton Mall, the largest in North America, there is an indoor water park, indoor theme park and plenty more to see and do.
