Iwan Fesnoux

Panorama Level 1 & 2 Instructor Internship

“Having read the other reviews I agree with pretty much all that everyone has already said;

– Best value for money of all the instructor courses (lift passes alone cost about £1000 for a season regardless)
– Living conditions superior to expectations and what I had experienced on my other ski seasons.
– A smaller company allowing for Rik and Emma to provide a more personal experience.
– Training and development opportunities were excellent.

All in all, going across the world can be a scary experience, but Rik and Emma will do all they can to make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible for you. Great people. Great experience.”

Abby Morris

Sun Peaks Level 1 & 2 Instructor Internship

“This company offers you everything you could want from a ski season; incredible options, incredible people, and most importantly incredible skiing… and snowboarding!

I went to Sunpeaks resort in BC, Canada, on the 18-week CSIA levels 1, 2 & 3 ski instructor training program. The opportunities available are endless. I got all the qualifications I’d planned on and more, ending the season on 9 quals. This course and company truly offer you everything you need to get into this industry and thrive.

Our training was amazing! I was taught by a variety of instructors, each one with a new perspective and something new to teach. We also had a consistent couple of instructors for our training majority, allowing us to really get to know them and vice versa.

It has truly been an incredible season and I have all intentions of returning to Sunpeaks to continue my training and put my qualifications to use.”

FAQ’s

What is a Ski Internship

A Ski Internship is the most affordable, full season programme involving ski instructor training, free skiing and a paid position within the snow school. A balanced yet immersive experience into the ski industry giving you world recognised qualifications and work experience allowing maximum improvement in teaching and overall confidence in a ski school role. The Winter Sports Company offer different versions of internships to suit different goals, so its worth understanding what is best for you.

How much does a ski instructor earn?

A ski instructor at Level 1 or 2 earns a modest wage (CAD$17-26 per hour) , but can quickly increase his or her potential by climbing the ladder to Level 3 or 4 within their body of qualifications. Increasing their private requests, working as a dual certified instructor, tips and bonuses and acheiving mini celebrity statuses all help to bring in the endorsements and increased earnings. Till you reach those dizzy heights, a Level 3 instructor will be your benchmark and bring in approximately (CAD$23-28 per hour) but also more hours work per week as you become more employable.

How long does it take to become a ski instructor?
Becoming a certified ski instructor can take as little as 3 days if your skills are eligible to pass the CSIA Level 1 course. Most Level 1 Ski Instructor courses are conducted over 3-5 days due to its high pass rate, depending on the governing body. However it is recommended to enrol on pre-course training with a provider such as the Winter Sports Company to best prepare for the Level 1 and most definitely the Level 2 ski instructor exams. This preparation can commonly take 2-3 weeks before taking the Level 1 certification and a further 5 weeks before taking the Level 2 certification. Successful applicants will be able to work in many countries around the world with a Level 2 certificate with either CSIA, BASI, NZSIA, PSIA to name a few.
What is the best ski instructor course?
The best ski instructor course depends on many factors like expert coaching, suitable terrain for the training, internationally recognised qualifications, teaching opportunities or potential internship positions within the resort. Small group training benefits the student, but also consider other elements like having an environment which has less interruptions such as cat tracks, hazards, flat ski areas, crowded slopes, and icy conditions. Overall a good ski coach, excellent terrain and a well equipped resort hosting a popular governing body will ensure a fantastic ski instructor course.
What qualifications do you need to become a ski instructor?
To become a ski instructor you generally need to hold a Level 1 licence with a recognised governing body such as CSIA in Canada,  PSIA in the USA, BASI in UK, NZSIA in New Zealand and the new PSIE in Europe. Whilst Level 1 concentrates on basic introductory skills, it is also focuses on safety and safeguarding in this new environment. The Level 2 & 3  furthers this knowledge increasing the advanced skills and techniques over more challenging terrain. The Level 2 certificate is considered the benchmark to sustain a successful career around the world as a ski instructor.
What is working a Ski Season like

Working a ski season is not all about endless bluebird powder days; it’s generally hard work. Long days in subzero temperatures, with children who do not always want to engage, can make the season hard to endure. Add some late party nights and early morning starts; this can eventually drain the batteries. Keeping on top of your health and your finances needs to be a priority. A level 1 or 2 instructor will earn enough to break even month by month. When you reach Level 3, you will start to forge a solid career out of this. Until then, it’s a balance between having the best time of your life, making new friends, surviving the season and gearing up for the next adventure.
