Time to kit yourself out.

We have provided you with some kit options to ensure that you are not only looking the part, but are going to turn up with the right equipment. Your success will depend on how fit you are and whether you are using the right equipment, especially when going for your Level 2 or higher.

Every year, someone arrives with a pair of twin tips, race skis, or powder skis. This is fine, outside of training hours, but make life easy for yourself and turn up on the right gear to do the right job.

Your body and ego will thank you, your instructors will thank you, and you will by far, see the most gains in the shortest amount of time. So we have done the ground work for you and put together some ideal equipment packages to suit the task at hand.

About the Collections

We have put together different collections at different prices to help make your pre-season preparation easier.

We start with a Bronze Collection up to the Platinum Collection, allowing you to choose the best gear depending on your price range and ability.

Packages are adjustable if you prefer different styles of ski boots or mix and match packages, e.g. silver package with platinum skis etc.

Our Providers

The providers listed allow us to have a discount you wouldn’t receive when buying independently; some even continue to let you have a discount throughout the season.

However, you must order your skis before getting to the resort, ensuring they will have them in stock for you. If you turn up unprepared at the start of the season, they may not have what you want.

So try to pre-arrange where possible, especially with the world’s supply lines being a little cooky at the moment!

Choosing Skis

When doing these courses, you must ensure you have an 80mm or thinner ski. This is because learning to carve will be the main focus for most of the course, and the narrower your skis are, the easier it is to carve. Ideally around 74-78mm width is ideal for Canadian on piste carving conditions.

You are more than welcome to bring powder or park skis along with you too for when you aren’t training. If you are on the Ski Patrol course a wider ski of around 95-105 is preferable to cope with the jobs and change of terrain.

What skis do I need for a ski instructor course?

Freefall is a ski shop based in SunPeaks, BC, Canada. They have a vast range of brands in their shop and have kindly partnered with us to help make your ski shopping easy!

Freefall has put together some packages for different levels of skiing and expectations. CSIA is a progression based on learning to Carve. As a result, you will not see any skis wider than 80mm in these options. In simple terms, the wider the ski, the more difficult it is to carve and the more stress you put on your knees. However, they do carry plenty of Off-Piste skis and would be happy to accommodate you with these while you are in the resort.

You will also be able to swap your skis in and out to make the perfect package, and the cost will be adjusted accordingly. However, pre-purchase is crucial, as it ensures that they have enough stock to fulfil your requirements and allows them to ensure you get the correct gear tailor-made for your Sun Peaks experience.

When you purchase a new boot from Freefall, it includes a complimentary professional boot fitting. Wintersports’ participants also receive a 10% discount on all Freefall’s world-class products. In addition, you will also become a “store ambassador”, which will entitle you to a store ambassador hoodie and hat and discounted tuning and waxing for the season.

There are stores situated up and down the country, and they are probably one of the only chain stores to which we would be happy to send you. Their top boot fitters have completed a foundation with a minimum of 2 weeks course length and an advanced certified course, which is six months/1 year training. They continually have to retrain to keep up with the latest technology.

So whilst we say get your boots in the resort, there is a fantastic option here. Especially if you are going to Panorama. Warning though: if you are in between sizes then always go smaller as they sometimes provide too big a boot fitting and you cannot get this rectified in resort so easily. If you are going to Sun Peaks, I have a lot of confidence in the shops in the resort in addition to this option.
