Sun Peaks has announced huge infrastructure investment of $60 million for the upcoming 2018/19 season and beyond.
The fantastic news is that a new chairlift will be installed in time for next season. The new chairlift will improve mountain efficiency between the Morrisey and main side of the ski hill. In addition, East village residences will benefit from ski-in/ski-out , enjoying easy access to the whole of the ski hill.
In addition, a further $300,000 is being invested upgrading the Sundance chairlift. The Sundance chairlift provides access to beginner pistes and the terrain park and is the busiest chairlift in the resort. An increased capacity will ease the queues that occasionally build-up at this lift. (And we mean, occasionally!)
Sun Peaks previous lift capacity equated to 12,000 people per hour, but with the new lift and increased capacity, it will equate to is 13,600 per hour – this is more than double the overnight capacity in Sun Peaks!
The Sun Peaks Grand will be having a make-over during the summer months, with $7,000,000 being spent on room upgrades. Brand new furniture, linens, flooring, wallcoverings and artwork will evoke a sense of warmth and cozyness.
Investment in real estate across the village is ongoing, with new developments well under construction. Further, $7,000,000 will be invested in the Sun Peaks Centre. A large scale project will enhance the existing sports centre. The improved venue will include a multi-purpose indoor area that will hold up to 3000 participants, enabling the community to host concerts, sporting events and corporate trade shows. The centre will have facilities for local residents and resort guests and should be an asset to Sun Peaks.
$1,000,000 will be spent on investment in mountain capital. Two new PistenBully Cats will be purchased and ready for next winter. Sun Peaks is renowned for its cruising blue and green groomers – so two new machines will ensure pristine pistes on all areas of the mountain.
The exciting initiatives ensure the continuing evolution of Sun Peaks as a leading destination and Canada’s second largest ski area. In addition, the developments will enhance the experience of our guests taking part in ski instructor courses, snowboard instructor courses and instructor internships in Sun Peaks.
