Join our BASI 10 week  Ski Instructor Course in Verbier and train with experienced BASI level 4 ISTD instructors in the Swiss Alps. You'll spend 10 weeks living in Verbier, the gateway to the 4 Valleys, and enjoy the huge 410km ski area. On this ski instructor course in Switzerland you will make friends for life and gain invaluable experience from your instructors and examiners. This BASI course includes training, accommodation, lift pass, meals, exam fees and more.

What's included
The Trip

Chalet accommodation
Half Board accommodation. We can accommodate couples and friendship groups upon request.
A limited number of single rooms may be available, please contact us for prices and availability.

Meal Plan
Breakfast and evening meals are served 5 days per week, typically Monday - Friday.
Meals are served in the chalet, with a continental breakfast each day and a cooked breakfast once per week. Dietary requirements are accomodated.

Season lift pass
Your lift pass is season long, and covers the whole 4 Valleys area 400km of skiable area and if you decide to add additional weeks to your course, or return to resort, your lift pass will continue to be valid.

Resort Support
A member of the team is in resort to oversee the course. Reps are knowledgeable about the resort, qualifications and training, and have often taken part on the course previously.

Training Package

Level 1 & 2 Training 
Training averages 30 hours per week. Coaching & shadowing is provided 5 days per week and is run by BASI instructors. You are mentored throughout the course and will receive tailored feedback as you prepare for the level 1 and 2 exams. Training typically runs Monday - Friday, weekends can be spent freeskiing, resting and enjoying the resort.

BASI Level 1 ski instructor exam
BASI level 1 is included in the price. Level 1 is a 5 day assessment course and qualifies instructors to teach beginners and early intermediate skiers.
A safe guarding children module must be completed prior to the level 1 exam, this is available through BASI as an online course, it can be done in your own time and costs £25.

BASI Level 2 ski instructor exam
The BASI level 2 ski instructor exam is within the timetable of the course. Level 2 is a 10 day course and qualifies instructors to teach up to and including parallel standard on marked pistes. The level 2 exam takes place in the final 2 weeks of the course.

BASI Membership & Instructor Licence.
As part of your course we enrol you with BASI. Membership for the year is included and you will be provided with a login to the BASI website where you can access online resources. Upon completion of level 1 you will be a licenced instructor.

Shadow Teaching
All participants must complete at least 35 hours of shadowing to be able to complete the Level 2 exam. Ski lesson shadowing & teaching is built in to your ski instructor training and helps prepare you for exams and provides observational experience in a mountain environment.

First Aid Course
BASI require all licenced instructors to hold a valid first aid cerificate. A first aid and off piste mountain safety course is included in the price and covers outdoor emergency first aid training.

Visa Assistance & Job Opportunities
Career advice sessions are held during the season. We have partnerships and connections with several sports schools across the world, and can offer guidance to help you to find employment as instructor once qualified. Some employment opportunities are available in Europe during peak weeks upon completion of the course.
We provide comprehensive advice and assistance when applying for working holiday visas.

Snow Ready Fitness Plan
Created for Winter Sports by a personal trainer & instructor, this 8 week pre-season fitness programme targets the muscle groups used in skiing & snowboarding and will make sure you are snow-fit in time for the start of your course.

Accommodation

Chalet Accommodation

Half board, high quality chalet accommodation. Located within walking distance of the nearest lift, the Verbier chalet has all the amenities you require to make it a home-from-home. You have the comfort and close proximity of the lifts and resort amenities to make the most resort living.
Accommodation is exclusively for the BASI level 1 & 2 course.

Course Schedule

An average of 30 hours of training and coaching time per week, over a 10 week programme. Training is delivered by BASI pro instructors, typically Monday- Friday.

Week 1: Resort orientation, meet the Altitude Ski School. Introductions to BASI method, team building, assessment of skill and creation of individual action plan. on piste technical ski coaching and 2 day first aid course.
Week 2: First aid course and skiing development, improvement across piste, moguls, steeps and off piste.
Week 3: BASI level 1 instructor exam.
Week 4: Ski the 4 Valleys. Off Piste training and technical development.
Week 5: Practical teaching experience. Ski school shadowing week, learn from our instructors working with clients on the hill.
Week 6: Practical teaching experience continues. Review and delivery of lessons shadowed, teach and technical coaching.
Week 7: Continued development, working on individual goals set by your mentor.
Week 8: Final week of training, teaching and technical preparation before level 2 assessment weeks.
Week 9: BASI Level 2 Ski Instructor Exam.
Week 10: BASI Level 2 Ski Instructor Exam and end of season celebrations.

This schedule is a guide and may be subject to change depending on conditions and the requirement of the group. For those who pass BASI level 2 there is potential for employment as an instructor, subject to interview.

Please note: BASI Level 1 has an online Safeguarding Children Module. This module costs £25 and must be completed prior to the course start date.


BASI qualifications are recognised world-wide including America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. This programme is the ideal option for gap years and those aiming to have a career in the ski industry. Level 2 is the minimum standard for employment outside the UK, so it is essential for any budding instructor wanting to work in an open mountain environment.

During this course you will become an associate member of BASI and will complete the BASI Alpine Level 1 and 2 Ski Instructor Course exams. Upon successful qualification you will receive your BASI ski instructor licence.

This BASI ski instructor course is delivered by highly qualified level 4 trainers. Winter Sports Company has partnered with Altitude ski school in Verbier for their highly regarded instructors whose experience, skills, knowledge and expertise are second to none.

 

WORK OPPORTUNITIES

We provide all our students with career advice throughout the course, which can be especially important if this is a new career move for you!
Ski instructors are in high demand at peak periods including February half term and Easter, so there is plenty of potential for work after your course. At the end of the course, successful candidates who achieve BASI level 2 will be offered an interview for ski instructor work.

Peak week jobs include teaching a variety of lessons from beginners to high-end intermediates.

*A requirement of holding a BASI licence is that you have a basic Criminal Record Disclosure. These are issued by Disclosure Scotland and need to be applied for before you start your course.
