Lello Clark shares his journey from the busy streets of London to the empty slopes of Sun Peaks Resort as he sets out on his 11-week instructor course. A career change could be just what you were looking for. Visit our courses page or give us a call.
Despite his youthful good looks and charm, Lello is one of our older trainee ski instructors who has decided to embark on a career and life-changing experience when over the age of 50.
In a previous life, Lello was the managing director of two health spas in London and the owner of a successful website selling skin care products. After 25 years in the capital, he decided it was time to escape. During the economic recession, he thought it best to close his company and move into consultancy – he hated consultancy. So Lello looked for what he really wanted to do.
Lello was brought up in the country and loves the outdoors. Coupled with his passion for skiing, he looked for opportunities in the ski industry, and he found our 11-week course at Sun Peaks Resort, Canada.
Lello flew out in November to join us at Sun Peaks Resort, Canada, and at first, found the course difficult – it’s not easy to forget 25 years of skiing experience! However, his instructors stripped away the bad habits, and by going back to basics and relearning techniques, his skiing continued to develop. As a result, Lello claims his skiing has improved by 150% and, by the end of his course, will be 200% better. ‘This,’ he says, is ‘beyond his wildest dreams’.

Even more exciting for Lello has been the discovery of ski racing. The Friday Race Series held in Sun Peaks Resort is open to locals and visitors alike. There are categories for everyone to enter, from the young to the old. Lello thought he would dislike the sport, took advantage of a free entry offered by the snow school and found he loved it. Speed is his friend. The racing has helped improve aspects of his skiing, and he hopes to continue shaving the seconds off his time.
When Lello enrolled on the course, he was sure he wanted to be a better skier. However, he was unsure about actually being an instructor, but after gaining his CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor qualification and spending many hours shadowing professional instructors from the snow school. He found he enjoyed teaching. It was the most surprising element of the course. Consequently, he hopes to find work as an instructor in New Zealand, Australia, or Europe.
It isn’t just Lello that is finding this sport late in life, why dont you check out Rob and how his snowboarding dreams became a reality.
