Revelstoke

Revelstoke has that enormous snow energy. With an average of 10.5m (over 34 feet) annually, and holding the Canadian record for 24 meters in one season, chances are you’re finding some fresh tracks when you visit!

Home to the most vertical in North America at 1,713 metres (5,620 feet); Revelstoke is world renowned for its incredible terrain. From the 4 wide-open alpine bowls to perfectly spaced glades.  It’s got it all but the real challenge is ensuring your legs can keep up!

The vibrant town has that laid-back ski vibe but without the commercial feel. With over 120 years of skiing history, it’s become part of the town’s fabric, creating a community that celebrates winter in all its forms. Don’t be surprised to see multiple shops in town with sign’s that read “Powder morning, back at 10!”

Valley Retreat

The house is probably as important as the mountain! Sleeping 16 in 7 large ensuite bedrooms, it’s probably some of the best accommodation you’ll find on a ski course.

It’s spacious, with plenty of entertainment areas. Separate lounges at opposite ends of the house means you can listen to some tunes while enjoying beers with friends or find a quiet space for some downtime with a movie or a good book.  A separate decked-out heated garage with a bar, fridge, couch, workbenches and tools, has pretty much everything any discerning pro needs! The outside Hot Tub just tops it, and we guarantee you’ll be more than happy to come back here and chill after a hard day’s skiing.

Only 1.5km from the main lift, you can walk (or sometimes even ski!) home. A private shuttle is also provided to get you back and forth, as well as into town.

Breakfast and Dinner

Even at the basic level, good food, in our opinion, is one luxury we cannot do without on a normal holiday. But on a training course like this? It’s vitally important!

4 breakfasts and dinners per week are included with your course, provided by our experienced in-house chef, meaning you’ve got time to relax and concentrate on what’s important.

Ryan your chef is used to producing energy-rich meals ladened with all the goodness you need to wake up and storm the mountain day after day or return to fuel those sore muscles. Outside of the meal plan, you’ll be able to cook for yourself or go and sample one of the many eclectic eateries in town. It’s got everything from French, Nepalese, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and of course, the good old Canadian mountain food.

Training Package

Level 1 & 2 Training
Specially designed for Winter Sports by Level 4 instructors and evaluators. On Snow Training is provided 4 days a week by CSIA level 3 & 4 instructors, with an extra day scheduled for shadow teaching with the school or allocated to our All Mountain Performance training. In addition, Level 1 and 2-course conductors will provide one-to-one feedback and training as you approach the exams.

CSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor Exam.
The CSIA exam is as much a course as an examination and is included with your package. Spread over 3 days and planned after 3 solid weeks of pre-training. On successful completion, you will become a member of the CSIA. Membership for the year is included, and you will be provided with a login to the CSIA website. Alternatively, if you want to skip this and swap it with some off-piste & powder days, then it’s easy to do.

CSIA Level 2 Ski Instructor Exam.

There are no hidden extras in your package so you have the 4 day CSIA Teach and Ski modules along with the 2 day exam included as standard. However, should you want to remove this from your package this can be done given enough notice.

Off-piste & Powder Training
Suppose you are not interested in becoming an instructor. In that case, the instructor modules can be replaced with some Steep & Deep training in the powder, giving you a rounded all-mountain experience. Or take the opportunity to do some heli-assisted backcountry, heli/cat skiing or simply polish up those turns and free ski.

Additional Training Option
Further certifications are available throughout the program. Including Avalanche Skills Training, Canadian Adaptive Ski Instructor, Race Coaching certification and Park course.

Snow Ready Fitness Plan
One of the most vital elements for your success is fitness. Created for Winter Sports by a Personal Trainer, Sports Therapist, and Nutrition Coach, this 8-week pre-season programme targets the muscle groups used in skiing & snowboarding. It will make sure you are shredded & snow-fit in time for the start of your course.

Week 1

Settling in, exploring and introduction to being a ski instructor. Get kitted up and out on the slopes. Calm the egos or nerves and get rid of any bad “holiday skiing habits”. Getting the correct skiing fundamentals in place right from the start. Start to relax into your new life.

Training starts with focusing on your technique and teaching the CSIA way.

Week 2-3

Moving to more advanced and challenging terrain. Including video analysis and consolidation of all the new methods.

Week 4-5

Final level 1 training & CSIA Level 1 exam. Then Big Celebrations before a well-deserved break. In Week 5, enjoy time to free ski or sign up for further bolt-on courses. Avalanche Skills Training Level 1, Canadian Adaptive Snowsports, Tree Wells & All Mountain Safety.

Week 6-8

Without wasting any time, it’s back to Training. Everything will start to ramp up now. Teaching experience, bumps, and short radius turn. Find your mojo and watch how your technique strengthens daily.

Week 9

Time to knuckle down! Powder, dynamic carving and teaching. This is where your pre-season fitness levels will pay off! The 4-day Level 2 modules will be scheduled. Absorb everything the Level 4 trainers throw at you but save some energy for the weekend with trips to the ice hockey and neighbouring resorts.

Week 10

Final prep week before the exams. Expect to go over everything you’ve covered so far, with exam practice and the last chance to work on any weak spots.

Week 11

It’s here, the final week and the Level 2 exams. It’s a nerve-wracking two days, but with ten weeks of training and experience, you will be more than ready. A big celebration is planned, and in those final days, enjoy time to free ski and party with friends.

Bolt On Courses

The Bolt-ons are the point where you can turn your already stellar winter season into something truly unforgettable. Whilst some are devised to improve your CV, some enhance your smile. The Heliski experience will have you grinning from ear to ear all the way back home through your front door. So decide what is critical for you, an adrenaline ride, gap year, career-breaking, mid-life crisis-soothing adventure? Or something that will put another few dollars on your wages and make your instructor resume stand out?

Revelstoke is blessed with industrial amounts of snow and incredible off-piste and powder conditions. With the infamous gems such as Rogers Pass, closely nestled in our backyard it makes for some unrivaled Backcountry, Heli or Cat skiing operations.

These are ancillary offerings to our clients once onboarded. It is a simple, transparent method so you can cherry-pick what you want and, more importantly, not be forced into paying over the odds for something you do not want.

Tree Wells & All Mountain Safety

An absolutely serious must-do, one-day course for all skiers and snowboarders who venture off the groomed runs. In our opinion, everyone should do this course; they are some of the closest dangers and yet the most overlooked. Learn about how tree wells form and safe riding through the trees.  What action to take if you fall into a tree well, and how to rescue someone. Additionally, this course will introduce you to often overlooked hazards that one may encounter, such as cold exposure injuries, variable snow conditions and more.

Intro to Backcountry Skills

During this 2-day course, you will spend time doing both on & off-piste technical training. You will develop a strong understanding of advanced technical concepts and learn about tactics and tools for developing off-piste skiing/riding skills in various environments. You will ski steep terrain, deep snow, glades, un-groomed conditions, bumps, and low visibility, to help gain knowledge in terrain adaptation and awareness in a changing mountain environment. Over the course, you will become familiar with your equipment and will be assessed in terrain analysis, hazard analysis, and trip planning to ensure safety when skiing the backcountry. Equipment (powder skis, skins, snowshoes, split board) are not included. You must have also completed the AST 1 & Companion rescue to take part in this.

NUEC I (Level 2)- Emergency Response First Aid

The two or four-day first aid course will provide the necessary training for those working in remote areas giving them the knowledge and skills to evaluate medical emergencies, decide the best course of action and triage, treat and evacuate the patient. Perfect for those working as instructors, guides, safety patrollers, and forestry. Topics will include but are not limited to life-limb-threatening injuries, CPR, survival skills, critical decision-making, stretcher use and other common scenarios experienced in these industries. Great to have on your CV and a fantastic introductory skill set for becoming a ski patroller or backcountry guide aiming for their NUEC Level 3.

Dog Sledding

The resort and nearby terrains offer an exhilarating dog sled adventure. You will meet the team and learn everything you need to know about dog sledding tours in Canada before heading out for a thrilling experience across beautiful landscapes. All sleds are guided, and the tour allows 30 to 40 minutes of sled time through majestic lodgepole pine trees. In return, you will get to thank the dogs by giving them lots of cuddles and snacks.

Ice Hockey Match

Watching ice hockey is a must for anyone spending significant time in Canada. As the national sport, you'll be hard-pressed to avoid it. It is on screens in bars and restaurants everywhere you turn! So, as a group, we will take a bus trip down to watch the game and get a bite to eat. It will be a fun night out that you won't want to miss! This is organized in the resort, and if you are in Panorama or Revelstoke, it's a weekly event. If you are at Sun Peaks, it's a once or twice a season event. Check out a previous Ice Hockey trip.

Heli Ski Trip

Heli-skiing is, quite simply put, the ultimate off-piste experience - perfect for freeskiers/riders, thrill-seekers and powder lovers. The adrenaline rush as you board the helicopter is nothing compared to the breathtaking views as you fly over the mountains. 3-5 runs into pristine powder fields. It's enough to put a grin on your face for months. Ultimate bragging rights. Make sure you take a Go-pro or pay for extra footage. Equipment is included, but make sure you have insurance to cover you. Extra insurance can be arranged. Sun Peaks clients must do the Revelstoke trip to do this.

First Tracks & Best Bits

You could spend all season in the resort and still miss these little gems. Your guide for the day knows every nook and cranny of the mountain. This is a non-training day, but by the end of it, you will know all the local knowledge on every section of the mountain. Knowing which slopes are best in certain conditions. Knowing what the local dangers or difficulties are in each area of the mountain. Finding the best runs through the trees. It's best done early in your programme so that you can get the most out of your time in the resort armed with a new sense of your surroundings. There is no better way to start the day than as VIPs and being the first ones up the lift for some First Tracks.

Ski & Board Tech Tips

Learn how to get the most out of your equipment from the pros. An evening in the workshop. Makes a great present for someone and gives them the knowledge on how to look after their equipment, tune it for the conditions and cover the overall safety aspects of your settings.

Off-Piste Tactical Training

This course offers a blend of coaching geared towards boosting your technique off-piste, allowing you to charge through the conditions and terrain confidently. It includes a basic understanding of the terrain's pitfalls and how to choose a successful track, taking into account the local dangers. You will also understand how to alter your stance and commitment when carving a path off the beaten track. We try to run this on a powder day but cannot guarantee this. This often books up early.
